(一)乖

今早,代堂,進入 F.1J 的班。一如已往,我給他們一邊幹『自己的事』,一邊聽我說數學的東西。因毫無準備,我又吃老本,講『謎題』:把邊長 8 單位的正方形分四份,再拼合,得長闊分別長 13 及 5 單位的長方形,由面積的考慮,『證明』了『64 = 65 』。已往,一到這個位(好像笑片的 gag 位,期望觀眾笑一笑),同學一定會露出奇異目光,七咀八舌地問『為什麼』?或你一言我一語地說出一些『創意』的解釋,但!但!但!他們竟然仍然是鴉雀無聲!他們是看一看我,隨即又在抄中文啦,又在看著什麼什麼的書啦。見狀,我不再多言,以免破壞如此幽靜, 心中盛讚可以訓練出他們如此這般的老師,但另一方面,我又對他們似乎過早失去那份好奇心和求知心而感到一點憂慮。

(二)危與機

因明天整日參與數學教育研討會,我不能上課,準備了一份 F.2 mathematics reading assignment 給我班同學。基本上是節錄了梁宗巨著的《數學歷史典故》,定了以下一些問題,希望同學可以從中知多一點點:

1. Once upon a time, the Pythagoras’ theorem was called 『勾股弦定理』in Chinese,what is the meaning of『弦』? Why we may simplify the name of the theorem as 『勾股定理』?

2. Use your own language and/or mathematical symbols to explain the following statement 『勾股各自乘,並而開方除之,即弦』.

3. It is claimed in the article that『近年來許多學者主張廢除將定理冠以畢達哥拉斯之名』, do you agree with the scholars? Why?

4. Suppose a, b and c are positive integers(正整數)satisfying a^2 + b^2 = c^2, then (a , b , c) is called Pythagorean triplet(畢達哥拉斯三元數組). We know that (3 , 4, 5) , (5 , 12 , 13) are Pythagorean triplets. Given that (2007 , b , c) is a Pythagorean triplet, find possible values of b and c.

我想做類似這些東西久良,今次匆匆一試,不知效(或後)果怎樣(嘻嘻,別的數學老師唔知我咁做,如果知道我死得,因為我在 EMI 學校竟然在數學堂給學生看中文文章再用英文作答)。睇我幾時要同學考埋數學口試(mathematics oral examination)。

    you don’t get used to shouting, and that’s why I knew that you’ve not corrected their behavior… Well, I just wanna tell you that Miss Wong ask, I don’t mean to say that you must come^_^, if that I’m misleading…
    Anyway, I dunno the reason every time I had a hair cut, it was always a new look or something else… Is it the question of my “dead head" or is it the problem of me…? Every time they ask me how to do do that job, I would just say = MAKE IT SHORTER… And if you’ve not noticed that, you’re so blind…

  2. 恰巧今天代課的時候,也向一班中三學生,說關於worldline,light cone 的東西,再說了一些愛因斯坦怎樣想出狹義相對論
    竟然有學生在午飯時,繼續問我更深入的東西。
    (不過我想聽得懂的也只有幾個)

    你說的話題非常有趣,可惜我是物理外行,深入的也不懂了。有學生以好奇求知的態度發問,叫當老師的甚為欣喜。

    今天我又要代堂了。
